In 2016 I probably read two books, if that. Since reading helps me relax and stay CHILL, my goal is to read at LEAST seven books in 2017. Originally my target was one book a month, but I am trying to stay practical. Two kids, a J-O-B, a hubs, and an addiction to Netflix will most likely prevent me from hitting the dozen I was striving for. Below is the list that I am going to TRY to finish in the upcoming year. Most are suspense, one is a history book, and one a book on organization and decluttering. Very random! A few years ago I was all about that YA and Chick Lit life (GAG)- but it was too predictable and cheesy. I am starting to get a little too old for that crap-this mom needs drama, thrill and excitement. Check out my list and let me know what you think. Am I missing any good ones?
A People’s History of the United States
Author: Howard Zinn
Believe it or not, I was a history minor in college. Hubs got me this book for Christmas (784 pages) and I started it last night. It is super interesting and unlike a lot of books that I have read in recent years. It’s time I invest my time into reading something other than The Daily Mail. Cool moms need to be smart moms, too!!
The Things We Wish Were True
Author: Marybeth Mayhew Whalen
Drama, especially neighbor drama, is so fascinating to me. As soon as I read the summary of this book I was sold. A neighborhood that seems perfect with a scandal…sign me up! The summary sort of reminded me of Desperate Housewives, but not sure if that will prove to be true.
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing
Author: Marie Kondo
Howard Stern was talking about this book one morning and it really got me listening. If you know me, you know I am a mess. My car, my desk, my closet….I NEED HELP! This book is supposed to really help with organization, so I am going to give it a try. At this point I need any help I can get.
Crooked Little Lies
Author: Barbara Taylor Sissel
I LOVED The Girl on the Train & this was one of the books that Amazon recommended since it is also suspenseful. The main character (a woman) recently suffered a head injury and was the last person to see a man who soon after went missing. The book got some really good reviews, which I rely upon heavily when choosing reading material!
The Couple Next Door
Author: Shari Lapena
Umm- this review sold me: “The twists come as fast [as] you can turn the pages.” —People
A glass of wine, a comfy chair and blanket…I can see myself finishing this book in no time. Just gotta find someone to take care of the kids.
What She Knew: A Novel
Author: Gilly Macmillan
The summary of the book hits home- a mother searching for her 8 year old missing son. It has really great reviews, but will probably be tough to read.
I have never heard of this author, so I googled her and she is supposed to be an amazing writer. This one might have to move up higher on my list.
Pretty Girls
Author: Karen Slaughter
Psychological thriller about sisters. That is pretty much all I know at this point, but the book was on a lot of “Must Read” lists and a top choice on Amazon.

Ok I’ve been thinking that I need to find time for books beyond dragons, Starwars, and ABCs. The Couple Next Door has my interest. Also is the history one fiction or non?

The history book is non-fiction 🙂
