There is no doubt in my mind that I am being punished. My behavior as a kid/teen was not what you would call the best. My mom didn’t have the “My Kid is an Honor Roll Student” bumper sticker and she certainly wasn’t happy with my mouth either. It wasn’t that I was one of those “bad” kids. I just wasn’t a goody goody and basically wanted to do whatever I wanted. I knew the day would come when I would get paid back for my actions, and the day is here.
My punishment is in the form of a cute, blue-eyed blonde with dimples. She looks like the sweetest thing. Sometimes she will kiss and hug me and tell me I’m “booful”. She has her grandparents wrapped around her finger and we think she is way too smart for her age. While her charm and looks make up some of this child…there is another side to her that is similar to Dennis the Menace meets Wreck-it-Ralph meets Stewie Griffin.
Dinner time consists of this little biddy throwing her food on the floor. No matter how many times we yell/try to talk to her/etc. nothing changes. She HATES naps and sleep. She REFUSES to sleep in her crib. If there is a split second our eyes aren’t on her- she’s up the stairs. She dumps the toy bins every day- almost on purpose- while she is staring at me. There is no walking. There is only running. “NO!” is her favorite word and she demands Sofia the First and Yo Gabba Gabba be on the TV. She pinches me, kicks me and hits me. The tantrums are the worst.
I could go on forever. The point is, if you have an angel baby first child, consider yourself blessed. From my experience, as well as a few girlfriend’s experiences, the second child is the opposite. She stresses me out, makes me cry and drives me crazy but I love her more each day. With the help of wine, the gym, my new adult coloring books, and my TV addiction I am managing this stress as best as I can. I also have to remember that this little attitude will only grow as she grows….
SIGH.
