January is almost behind us, and it’s been……. a lot. Impeachment trial, possible war, Australia fires, election drama, illnesses, fear of the Coronavirus, Megxit, earthquakes, and the helicopter crash in Californian that killed 9 people, including Kobe Bryant & his daughter Gianna. And unfortunately, we all have personal stuff going on as well. I don’t think I have ever been as ready to begin a new month. The first of the month has always been always exciting to me…fresh beginnings and a clean slate. For some, it’s a time to pick back up and start new. For others, it’s continuing to stick with goals set in the new year.
I decided to set some February goals & share them with all of you, in hopes that you will join me in creating your own goals for what HOPEFULLY is a more positive month. My intentions are not to cut anything out completely or give anything up. Been there done that with Whole30. This list is more of a guide to making better choices both mentally & physically.
My first goal is to DRINK MORE WATER AND LESS COKE ZERO. I have many friends who exclusively drink water. I desperately want to be one of these people. But for some reason, diet soda and diet iced tea are everything to me. It’s an annoying habit, but I suppose there are worse vices out there. Still. I need to STOP!
Steps to achieve this goal: Have plenty of water on hand. Perhaps add some lemons/limes and fresh mint to spice it up. If I feel the need to have something other than water, make it plain unsweetened iced tea with zero artificial flavors or a good old seltzer.
Next. EXERCISE 22 out of 29 DAYS. This one was easy to come up with since my fitness studio is holding a contest with prizes. Visit the studio and take a class 22 out of 29 days is all I have to do. All of my classes are booked out and this sounds like something I can achieve…I did 21 out of 28 days last year and was damn proud. The only things that will keep me from achieving this goal are scheduling conflicts, or my kids getting sick. I plan to make it work! On March 1st I will thank myself.
Steps to achieve this goal: Lean on my fitness studio buds and family for encouragement! I need to keep up with my workouts in my planner and PLAN! Maybe I will even splurge on some new Lululemon for even more motivation.
This one is going to be tough for me (and I assume most of my internet loving peeps can relate). SPEND LESS TIME ON SOCIAL MEDIA. You guys. The other day my iPhone informed me that I spent SEVEN HOURS staring at my phone. WHAT. THE. F. That is just straight up embarrassing and a waste of time. Some of it could have been stuff for my blog and Instagram, which is considered a side gig for me, but most likely it was reading DailyMail, Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, etc. Endless scrolling. Double-clicking, liking and commenting. Straight up not worth my time! When I look back at my life, I do not want it to be spent on SM 7 hours a day. Good Lord! Keep in mind that I am also staring at a computer screen 8 hours+ a day. Ughh. OK, so my main goal is to spend less time on dumb apps and more time doing things that will make me a better person.
Steps to achieve this goal: PUT MY DAMN PHONE DOWN. It’s that simple.
Who here has read a book in the last six months? NOT ME! In February I am going to READ A BOOK. Just one. damn. book. I can do this. Some people can read a book in a day. I am not that person. A few years back I was on a reading kick, and IDK what happened. Actually I do know what happened. Kids. Work. Life. Podcasts. Social Media! I need suggestions for fiction- think Gone Girl genre. If I am actually going to read a book I need to love it.
Steps to achieve this goal: BUY a book on my kindle. Make sure I like said book. Every night before bed, read for as long as I can.
If I had a day to myself….what would I do? Lots of things. Mani, pedi, shopping, clean, go to the movies, go out to lunch, take a nap, watch TV, paint a room….the list goes on and on. This month I plan to TAKE A PTO DAY FOR MYSELF. This will not be a day off to take my kids to the doc, or a day off when my kids don’t have school. This will be a ME DAY, a day where I do whatever I want to do. It is deserved.
Steps to achieve this goal: Look at my calendar and schedule the day. It’s that easy. Or is it?
Finally. This one is not so much necessary, because thankfully I married a nice Italian man who is the chef in our house. But I need to do MORE COOKING AND MEAL PREP. I suck. I make like 2 things… chili and soup. And tacos. OK, I can make anything with ground beef and that is about it. I need to start taking more time out to plan my breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Baby steps, but I think I can do this. Just don’t ask me to bake because I need a LOT of help in that area.
Steps to achieve this goal: Kick my husb out of the kitchen! Not sure if he will let me in, though.
Will I achieve all of these GOALS? I hope so. I am going to better myself as a person, but I am not going to beat myself up if I am not “perfect”. CHEERS to a more positive and healthier month.
