My hair has been long, and it has been short. It has been permed. Blonde, red, brown, and a mixture of all three. It has been braided, curly, straightened and highlighted. I had bangs, a mullet and even a tail in 3rd grade. Yes, a tail. My mom was a hairdresser and started experimenting on me at a young age…I remember getting a perm mayybbeeee at the age of three. There is a picture somewhere out there to prove it, too. My hair was on point every single day of kindergarten- curled and styled. I was a tiny chameleon.
For a majority of the last ten years, my style of choice has been SHORT & BLONDE. I love pixie cuts and short bobs. My inspirations are Sienna Miller, Scarlett Johansson, Miley Cyrus, Michelle Williams, and Elsa Pataki. Literal hair goals. Not too many people I know have short hair, so when I see one of these women (or ANY woman for that matter) rocking a short do, it’s super exciting and inspirational. Most recently, I have been obsessed with the undercut. I went back and forth for a while debating whether or not to go that short. Is it too short? Will I look weird with it that short? Should I just grow out a mom bob and be done with trying to look like my favorite celebrities? After much thought (mostly me thinking that I actually don’t care what anyone thinks), I decided to go for it.
If you have been thinking about cutting your hair off and never follow through, just do it! Don’t be afraid. If you are worried about what others will think, please don’t be. Gone are the days where a woman has to have long hair to be “sexy.” Not everyone has to have long Victoria Secret Angel hair. I mean, come on VS. Why can’t there be an angel with a pixie? Luckily my husband LOVES my short hair. And if he didn’t love it…..he would have to learn to.
Luckily, my hairdresser Donna at Tribe in Chaddsford, PA has major skills and knows just what to do with my THICK hair. I showed her a pic I found on Instagram of an undercut, and we went for it. Getting buzzed with clippers was a little shocking, but I knew my hair was in the best hands. Instead of highlights, she did balyage. As the the weather gets warmer, I tend to go blonder. Added bonus: Tribe uses Kevin Murphy color, which is all natural. Gone are the days of too many chemicals in my hair. When she showed me the final results in the mirror, I was super impressed. Check out the pics below.
If you live in the Philadelphia area, please check her out at Tribe. Mention my name (Jaime from thiscoolmom.com) and Donna’s name and you will receive 20% off of your first visit! And wait until you see the beautiful space-it reminds me of Anthropologie and Terrain. Lots of greenery and a relaxing, rustic atmosphere. I always look forward to my appointments, not only because the staff is so welcoming, but because I get some peace and quiet away from my babies.
And remember- MORAL OF THE STORY: If you want to get your hair cut short, GET YOUR HAIR CUT SHORT. Don’t let anything hold you back, because it does grow back eventually 🙂
I can’t wait to see your pics!
Tribe is located at 882 Baltimore Pike, Chadds Ford, PA 19317
