Going to a large grocery chain with 2 kids in tow straight up gives me anxiety. The meltdowns that could ensue, the constant argument from my 4 year old whether or not he goes in the cart or walks, and my 15 month old trying to climb out of said cart are just a few of the reasons why I just refuse to do it.
Tonight, hubs had football and we only had leftover chicken (gag) and some other random pieces of food in the fridge. I had no other choice than to go to a store and actually buy some sort of dinner, by myself, with two wild children. Baby in stroller, 4 yo walking close by. He was holding a basket to feel special, like he was helping. The TJ’s by us is not very big, so he was bumping food off of the shelves and colliding with carts, but that was the least of my worries. My main goal: get in and out of the store as fast as possible without whining or hysterical kids.
Normally I make the mistake of trekking to Trader Joe’s on an empty stomach so naturally today was no exception. My main purchase was the Fontina Chicken Sausage (YES!), frozen bag of peppers and onions, and frozen bag of asparagus. Easiest dinner EVER, and the hubs approved.
Some other random stuff I bought: Onion rings (SO UNNECESSARY), chocolate covered almonds, little baby pepperoni pizzas (they were so cute), chocolate chip cookies (DJ’s pick), a bag of shredded Swiss and Gouda cheese, and a bag of frozen mixed fruit. The visit took about ten minutes and everyone came out with something they could enjoy. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! This is why I love you Trader Joe’s. You have everything we need and you make grocery shopping painless (for the most part).
Now there is ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING missing from the PA Trader Joe’s, and that is WINE. Also known as 2 Buck Chuck. Let’s get this liquor law passed in this crazy state and TJ’s will have an even bigger place in my heart.
